Work Life Balance in Denver Colorado
Finding Work Life Balance in Denver Colorado and Beyond. The holidays are a time to be with family, take some time off work, and have some needed rejuvenation. Are you finding yourself caught up in holiday stress instead? Read on for three tips to keep yourself balanced in the coming weeks.
Stress, The Holidays and Finding Balance
Stress is fear. It is our body’s natural flight or fight response kicking in to keep us safe from some perceived harm. However, prolonged stress takes a toll. We need a break!
What the American Psychological Association says about stress:
“The longer the stress lasts, the worse it is for both your mind and body. You might feel fatigued, unable to concentrate or irritable for no good reason, for example. Chronic stress causes wear and tear on your body and mind.”
Here are 3 tips to help you cope with holiday stress and work-life balance.
- Ask yourself if you are doing too much. Sometimes we make things up about how much we actually need to get done. Do you really NEED to take that project home with you over the holidays? Do you really need to shop for gifts for the cousin you never see? Can you actually unplug from the phone and email for a few days? Just taking a few moments to reflect on your commitments during this time of year is important. Sometimes, we just stay busy because it helps us feel important and because everyone else is doing it! Hopefully, self-care is also on the list of your commitments!
- Do one thing for yourself each day. You know what you need in order to keep yourself sane and balanced this time of year with your work and family commitments. Are you doing it? Take self-care on as a daily practice. Whatever your thing is – writing, reading, exercising, meditation, playing a musical instrument, etc., if you keep yourself grounded, happy and nurtured, you will be better able to show up for your family and your work in a good way.
- Be aware of your stress level. Sometimes stress sneaks up on us. That little interaction with Dad can irritate you almost without knowing it, and the next thing you know you are yelling at the dog – or your kids! Pay attention to those interactions and take mini-breaks. Breathing is the best way to get back on track. When we react or go into stress-mode, we hold our breath, which actually creates more tension in our bodies. Take a walk, get some fresh air and practice some deep breathing. Try it, it works!
At Transformative Training, we wish you a relaxing, peaceful and rejuvenating Holiday Season and we hope you find work life balance in Denver, Colorado and beyond!
